Service number 06
Library Management System Implementation
A migration is judged on the day circulation reopens. We move bibliographic, item, patron and transaction data with a verified count on both sides, configure circulation to your actual rules, and rehearse the cutover before it happens.
| Systems | Koha and comparable open-source platforms |
|---|---|
| Migration inputs | MARC21, ISO 2709, CSV, legacy database exports |
| Reconciliation | Record counts and checksums verified on both sides |
| Protocols | SIP2 and Z39.50 where self-issue or union search is required |
Section 01
What you receive.
- Installed and configured system with circulation and cataloguing modules
- Migrated bibliographic, holdings, patron and loan data with reconciliation report
- Circulation policy configured: loan periods, categories, fines, reservations
- OPAC configured and checked for keyboard and screen-reader use
- Staff training and an operations runbook
Section 02
How the work runs.
- Audit the source data and agree the mapping, field by field
- Run a trial migration and reconcile counts against the source
- Configure circulation rules, categories and permissions
- Rehearse cutover, then execute it in a planned low-traffic window
- Support the first live weeks and hand over the runbook
Section 03
Who this is for.
- Libraries moving off a legacy or unsupported system
- Institutions consolidating several departmental libraries
- New libraries implementing a system for the first time
Section 04
Questions we are usually asked.
- How much circulation downtime should we plan for?
- The cutover window is agreed in advance and rehearsed beforehand. Offline circulation procedures are provided so issue and return continue on paper if the window overruns.
- Can departmental libraries keep separate rules?
- Yes. Branches can hold distinct loan periods, categories and permissions within a single consolidated catalogue.
