Collection Development and Acquisition

A collection is only as useful as the decisions behind it. We work from your curriculum, research priorities and existing holdings to decide what should be acquired, in what proportion, and in which format, then run the procurement to completion.

Section 01

What you receive.

  • Written collection development policy, reviewed with the library committee
  • Subject-wise gap analysis against curriculum, syllabi and research output
  • Title-level selection lists with edition, imprint and format recommendations
  • Vendor identification, rate comparison and purchase-order documentation
  • Accession register entries and receipt verification against invoices

Section 02

How the work runs.

  1. Study existing holdings, issue statistics and curriculum documents
  2. Map subject strengths and gaps, weighted by programme and enrolment
  3. Draft selection lists and circulate for faculty endorsement
  4. Float requirements, compare rates and finalise vendor allocation
  5. Verify receipts, record accessions and hand over reconciled records

Section 03

Who this is for.

  • University and college libraries revising a collection policy
  • New institutions building a first collection against regulatory norms
  • Research institutes with concentrated subject requirements

Section 04

Questions we are usually asked.

Can you work with an existing vendor panel?
Yes. Where an institution already has an empanelled vendor list or a rate contract, we work within it and confine our role to selection, verification and record-keeping.
Do you handle the purchase itself?
We prepare and support the procurement, and purchase orders are raised by the institution in its own name. Our fee comes from the institution alone, which keeps selection advice independent of any supply interest.

Section 05

Enquire about collection development and acquisition.

Tell us the size of the collection, the systems already in use, and the deadline you are working to. That is enough for a useful first reply.
